About the event

Katy Dieckhaus is a pediatric occupational therapist and has worked for a non-profit clinic for the past 11 years.

On March 27, 2023, Katy and her family tragically lost 9-year-old Evelyn, who was one of the six victims of the Covenant School shooting in Nashville. Katy had concerns about the rise in gun violence in Tennessee before the unimaginable occurred. Now faced with this unfortunate reality, her mission in life is to improve the overall safety of Tennesseans by focusing on firearm responsibility and working together to help make this a safer place for all.

Jennifer Hellmer is an attorney and Tennessee native. She moved to Florida for law school and practiced criminal defense law for many years in both Florida and Wisconsin. While in Wisconsin she exclusively represented law enforcement officers across the state, specializing in representing officers that had been involved in officer-involved shootings or other critical incidents. She returned to Tennessee in 2016. Recognizing the need for a better work-life balance, she transitioned to corporate law and continues to work part-time for a motor vehicle manufacturer. She has two boys, ages 7 and 5.

Jennifer is one of the founders of Voices for a Safer TN and continues to volunteer as a policy adviser for the organization. She believes that together we can create a Safer TN through policy changes that reduce preventable firearm tragedies.
