About the event

Sharon K. Roberson, Esq serves as President and CEO of YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, whose foundation is justice for all. The YW is the largest domestic violence service provider in Tennessee.


Before taking the helm of the YWCA, Sharon served as a Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary for Direct General Corporation. Sharon has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, including supervising employees in various U.S. cities and Manila, Philippines. She was General Counsel and Assistant Commissioner for the State of Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and Director of self-insurance and Surplus Lines. She was appointed by both a democrat and a republican governor. Throughout her corporate and governmental legal career, Sharon has brought programs and initiatives to further those in the community who do not have a voice. 


Sharon has served on and chaired numerous insurance boards in multiple states. She has also served on the Executive Committee of the Nashville NAACP and Chaired the Mayor's Community Safety Partnership Fund Board. 

Sharon has served on many non-profit boards, including the Nashville Symphony, Maryland Farms YMCA, Girls Scouts of Middle Tennessee, Past President of the Nashville Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and the YWCA. 

Sharon has received many community awards and recognition, including being a two-time Athena nominee, Nashville Bar Fellow, Leadership Nashville alum, Nashville Business Journal Women of Influence, and inducted into the YWCA Academy for Women of Achievement.  Sharon has been named one of Nashville's Most Powerful Women by the Nashville Post and five times one of Nashville's Most Admired CEOs by the Nashville Business Journal. In 2022, she received the prestigious Napier-Looby Bar Foundation - Z. Alexander Looby Lifetime Achievement Award and was recently honored with the Pioneer Award from the Nashville Metro Council Minority Caucus. Under Sharon's leadership, the YWCA was named a 2018 Person/Organization of the Year by the Tennessean newspaper.


Sharon graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in Economics and earned her law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
