About the event
Jordan Harris is the owner of Alkebu-Lan Images Bookstore, Nashville’s only Black-owned bookstore, the oldest in Tennessee, and one of the city's longest-running sellers of new books. A Nashville native, Jordan is committed to preserving and expanding this vital cultural institution, which has served as a beacon for African heritage, literature, and community engagement since 1986. Under his leadership, the bookstore continues to be a hub for knowledge, education, and empowerment, hosting author talks, community events, and cultural programming that uplift Black voices and history.
Before taking the helm of Alkebu-Lan Images, Jordan built a global career in finance, earning a Bachelor’s in Economics from Morehouse College and a Master’s in Finance from London Business School. He worked as an Investment Banker at HSBC in Hong Kong and London, gaining extensive experience in global markets and business strategy.
Jordan later transitioned into entrepreneurship, bringing a taste of Southern culture to London as the owner of Stagolee’s Hot Chicken & Liquor, an acclaimed restaurant that introduced Nashville’s signature flavors to an international audience.
Returning home to Nashville, Jordan is now dedicated to ensuring Alkebu-Lan Images continues its legacy as a cornerstone of Black intellectual and cultural life. His mission is to promote positive self-images of Black Americans, elevate perceptions of Black history and culture, and preserve the bookstore’s place in history for future generations.
