Grace Sutherland Smith

Grace Sutherland Smith is Executive Director of AgeWell Middle TN, formerly the Council on Aging of

Middle TN, a nonprofit that serves as a trusted community resource, a champion for older adults and

family caregivers and a catalyst for solutions to unmet needs. Grace received a B.A. in American

Government from the University of Virginia and a Masters in Social Work, with a focus on adults and

aging, from the University of Georgia.

For the past thirty years, Grace has worked in a variety of positions at the federal and local levels serving

older adults, caregivers and professionals. Prior to becoming director of AgeWell, Grace managed the

Meharry Consortium Geriatric Education Center and served on the board of the National Association for

Geriatric Education. She has also worked at Mental Health America of the Mid-South where she

provided support to families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.

Grace currently serves as co-chair of the TN Coalition for Better Aging along with Dr. Jim Powers from

Vanderbilt Medical Center. She’s also a member of the Nashville Rotary Club.
