Andrea currently serves as the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer for the City of Nashville.
She is also a podcaster, professor, historian, and cultural content creative who is recognized for her
professional leadership, advocacy for cultural inclusivity and equity, and innovative methods in
teaching historic harms. She has held the post of professor at both Lipscomb University and
Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. In 2015, the midst of a social awakening stemming from
interactions between law enforcement and BIPOC communities, she developed an international
cultural and anti-racist education curriculum rooted in historic and contemporary movements. She
was an adult leader with the Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, and is an active member of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She’s served on the Board of Directors for the Maddox
Foundation, the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC), the Ivy Center
Foundation of Nashville, the National Council on Public History (NCPH), as well as on the Tennessee
Historical Records Advisory Board (THRAB). Her ongoing research includes education disparity and
self-representations in children’s literature. She is a lover and scholar of hip hop, and a Zora Neale
Hurston enthusiast. She enjoys deep conversations and pushing the envelope, all the features of her
